ABC News reports a somber scene at Rutgers University after news of Clementi’s suicide over the surreptitious live online broadcast of his homosexual encounter spread. Allegations that students Ravi and Molly Wei conspired to monitor Clementi with a webcam during a homosexual encounter have spread. Not long following the event, Clementi announced via his Facebook page that he was going to jump off the George Washington Bridge, which he evidently did.
A farewell was what Clementi told everybody
On September 22 at 8:42 p.m., Clementi’s Facebook post read “Jumping off the gw bridge sorry.” Clementi’s body has not yet been reported as found, although an unidentified male body was discovered by New Jersey authorities within the Hudson River just north of the bridge. Clementi’s Rutgers University ID was found in a wallet nearby. There was also his driver’s license contained in the wallet.
Paul Mainardi, attorney for the Clementi family, confirmed Tyler Clementi’s suicide via a statement in which the young man is praised for his outstanding personal qualities and his distinguished musicianship.
‘I saw him making out with a dude. Yay.’
Prosecutor Bruce Kaplan discussed that because Tyler Clementi’s homosexual encounter was broadcasted through iChat, both Rutgers Scarlet Knights Dharun Ravi and Molly Wei are being imposed with two counts of invasion of privacy. On September 19, Ravi tweeted a remark :
“Roommate asked for the room till midnight. I went into molly’s room and turned on my webcam. I saw him making out with a dude. Yay.”
Two days following the initial broadcast, Ravi tweeted again:
“Anyone with iChat, I dare you to video chat me between the hours of 9:30 and 12. Yes it is happening again.”
Both Wei and Ravi get busted by police
Though they surrendered to police, neither Wei nor Ravi remains in New Jersey police custody. Because of her recognizance, Wei was able to be released from jail, reports ABC News. On the other hand, Ravi had to pay a $25,000 bail to get out. The investigation will continue leaving a lot more data to be found.
