Friends call you a Friggatriskaidekaphobia? Scared of the 13th being on a Friday

The 13th day of a month landing on a Friday could be a pretty rare circumstance. It doesn’t really mean anything, but people get spooked over it all the exact same, and this fear is known as Friggatriskaidekaphobia. Granted, most black cats won’t do anything more harmful than shed or do that annoying thing with their paws. Regardless, individuals do indulge in their superstitions. You are a Friggatriskaidekaphobia for those who have a fear of the 13th on a Friday. Jason Voorhees won’t appear, even if you say the word within the mirror 3 times.

What’s the pronunciation of that?

You say the word “fri-gah-tri-sk-eye-de-kah-fo-bia.” The word, a portmanteau, means a person is scared of Friday the 13th. It is interesting to note that Triskaidekaphobia is a fear of the number thirteen while friggaphobia is just a fear of Friday. That’s why together they make the word Friggatriskaidekaphobia. Friday was a day associated with witches. Friday ended up being named after Frigga, or Freya, who was the German/Norse goddess naming it Freya-day. Ancient world sexism is not our topic for today although the day was named, as argued by others, after a female deity, making it have an association with witches. Triskaidekaphobia is the fear of the number 13. The word “tri” is the number three, “deka” is 10, you get the idea.

Does anything happen on Friday the 13th?

No, not really, for short. Even if it were to be long it’d nevertheless be no. A correlation to anything with Friday the 13th has never been observed, other than a few people getting the “heebie-jeebies” or Friggatriskaidekaphobia. If anything were actually to happen on Friday the thirteenth, somebody would have noticed by now and written it down. Also, even if more car accidents were observed on Friday the 13th, you would also have to account for more people drinking on Friday.

Superstitions like Friggatriskaidekaphobia are harmless. There are still superstitions that exist as tradition today. Because theaters don’t want to be cursed, they refer to “MacBeth” as “the Scottish play” since it is designed to be a cursed play. This is a fantastic time to have just a little bit of fun, like Halloween, so watch a movie with your friends or family that scares you a bit. You may want to make an effort to avoid Crystal Lake though.
